When you preordered the iPhone from Best Buy did they check your AT&T account first to see if you qualify?
I don't specifically recall, but I don't think they checked my account first to see if I qualified; the sales rep did ask me if I was buying the phone with a new plan or if it was an upgrade. Since I had checked the AT&T site the other day, I already knew that I did qualify.

I certainly hope that Virtual Desktops make their way into this version of OS X. This is one of the biggest features I'm surprised that never made it in, considering that pretty much every other distribution of UNIX/Linux I've ever seen has a virtual desktop manager.
I don't know where the 'new monitor' rumor is coming from since I'm not seeing anything mentioned in the original post, but I wouldn't be surprised to see new monitors with a built in iSight, so pretty much all Macs can have a camera along with them. Will it also have a built-in microphone?

Please state proof that Apple is lying. Email headers from the recipient are not iron clad proof. Show me proof from Apple that they are lying - if you cannot provide factual proof that cannot be manipulated back down.
Show me proof that they're not lying.... See anyone can play this game but it doesn't do anything to push the conversation forward.
Just saying, not taking sides..

So what happens when the might of Apple comes crashing down on you - public execution at dawn?!
They should be punished, not executed, but this is China.
They leaked the designs of a consumer product. Big who cares. It's not like they leaked nuclear submarine schematics. Personally I just think they should be dismissed. Anything more is heavy-handed. Can't believe how many people are advocating the death penalty here - it's an iPad - in the grand scheme of things you probably couldn't leak a design more trivial, or of less importance. Business shouldn't stand in the way of basic human rights.
They should be fired as a minimum punishment.
A significant amount of the news on this site (arguably, the most interesting news) is a result of the leaking of trade secrets.
So what's our view? "Give us all the interesting info, then arrest the people who leaked it to us!" ? Doesn't that seem a tiny bit... hypocritical?
This site is hypocritical in many ways. Rumors come from leaks.

HAHAH.. Israel should be a CHRISTIAN STATE and abolish their tyrannical government and be a true light unto the nations..
Riiiight. And how, may i ask, do you suggest that will happen? First you want to give it back to the palestinians (who are mostly not christian), and now you want to make it a christian state. make up your mind buddy. If it were a christian state you would still have to take the land from the palestinians.

The Apple/Tmobile partnership is interesting. I thought that Apple and Cingular had a deal but I guess not my T-mobile phone that I use in Europe had itunes on it and I know quite a few people that use itunes on T-mobile serviced phones. I have itunes running on my V360 and have about 800 songs on my transflash card(just for your info, if it's not already on your phone)

Probably because they sent him an iPad for free, so he has to be nice.
Possibly.... I like to think of Colbert as the Apple show-off guy in comedy since he is one of the few, who gets access to Apple's stuff outside the lockdown doors and can display stuff in public (see iPad on Music Awards).
I bet he has some small contract with Apple.

geekbench score for the 2.3 dual core is 2082
geekbench score for the 2.5 quad is 3304
and you can get a quad , but you need to make one thing absolute sure , that it does not come with the delphi pumps , apple did change the supplier basically right at the end before discontinuing the G5 , the later ones are i think from panasonic , but that needs confirmation and those are much more reliable , still did not help them ,despite apple still sold quiet a few to its victims aeh customers who believed apple a couple month earlier, as apple told everybody how superior the G5 is and then going intel

Apple has posted an MPEG-4 video-on-demand stream (http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/sep_2006/event/index.html) of today's special announcement. It is unclear whether it will be broadcasting live or whether it will be a replay of the event as Apple has done in the past and as AppleInsider has claimed (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2033). Either way, MacRumors will be providing coverage of the event as it unfolds using our state-of-the-art MacRumorsLive service.
Also, as many of you have already noticed, the Apple Store (http://store.apple.com/) has gone down for updates.

When android phones are literally being given away, what is the surprise with the 'surge'? One system is popular because people want it, but the other will eventually surpass it because its an open system on many different phone platforms that are often included for "free".
1. So Google being smart about Android distribution is wrong?
2. You can get an iPhone 3Gs for free in many place, as well as $49.
Showing how Android is surging ahead is meant to show which OS is winning, but often (as is the case with this report, I believe) they are only looking at phone sales. Because iOS runs on iPads and iPods, Apple's share is higher. I wish we could get more concrete evidence on this.
P-Worm
True, but the biggest problem is that (from what I recall working at Apple and many posts on the forums) Apple counts shipping units as units sold, as well as units solely sold for replacement.
e.g. A user getting his/her iPhone replaced will be given a free iPhone, but Apple counts that as a "sold" unit in their inventory.
What these numbers do show me though is that not too many people really care about talking and surfing the web at the same time. Making one of AT&T's biggest advantages moot.

The sad thing is this:
Apple had a HUGE tech advantage with their touch-screen iOS software. They were light-years ahead of the competition when the original iPhone debuted. They could've licensed the software with some decently strict quality controls (screens must be X size, processor must be X fast, etc.) and stomped the market while Android was still an idea in some moron's head at Google.
They could've been Microsoft for the new-era: iOS on every Phone, iOS on every tablet, etc.
And they made the same, stupid mistake as they did in the 80s: they picked device profitability over software profitability. They've locked themselves into a cycle where they need to constantly hit their hardware revisions out of the ballpark, both in specs and aesthetics, to keep pace.

Heh. Cheers, mate.
I figure if I had as much R&D funding as NASA (perhaps more), these are the kind of things I'd be looking at.
Off topic, but I wonder if these alloys have the potential to be strong enough to build a space elevator. They're currently at about 1.7GPa, which is about the level of high-tensile steel. 62GPa is required for the space elevator (carbon nanotubes have theoretical potentials of 200+ GPa - but no one can get them more than a few centimetres long so far).

Budweiser, Miller, PBR, Old Style, Lone Star, etc. are all very similar. They are great to drink after any strenuous exercise, running, biking, etc. In fact, I defy you name any type of beer that is better to drink, afterward. The "lightness" of those type of beers is what makes them ideal. They are very refreshing.
You're joking, right? There is absolutely zero nutritional benefit of these crappy beers that are brewed with rice grain.
I suggest ALL OF YOU, go out, and sample beer. I've become a bit of a beer snob, but it's for the better. I now know what I really, really like.
Favorite Beers:
Pliny the Elder
Full Sail IPA
Firestone DBA
Firestone Union Jack
Stone IPA
I like hoppy, higher BU beers. Some people like the fruity, mild beers. To each his own.

I'd like to be able to hide the menu bar in the next version of OSX, like the way you can hide the dock. More real estate for the screen.

With Vista going to computer manufacturers now, I highly doubt that it will be pushed all the way into the summer. Although it is Microsoft, and this IS Vista, but I still don't think it would happen. MS would release it anyway and a crapload of updates following if necessary.
I think Leopard is farther away than many speculate. If Apple really wanted to release it right in January, you would think they would want a bigger hoopla to build the hype, which would have to happen almost immediately. Even then, you would think as neared completion we probably would have gotten a rumor or leak concerning the supposed top secret features by now. While I have nothing but gut feeling to go on, I think it'll be *really* previewed at MacWorld with a release, maybe March or April, possibly into May.
And that would make more sense. Let Vista's dust settle, let the bitching commence, maybe even a couple highly publicized virus or spyware incidents, then swoop in with Leopard, showing that even after MS had 5 years of development to rip off OSX, Apple is still ahead of them. That would give time for hype, and give Apple the press coverage. Not only is it likely, it makes sense.
For Summer read Winter in the US and for Autumn read Spring in the US.

Cingular officially announced today (http://cingular.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=press_releases&item=1742) its new mobile music service, deciding to partner with Microsoft, Napster, Yahoo! Music, XM Satellite Radio and eMusic for a subscription-based service model.
Many have seen this event as an essential death-sentence to the rumor that Apple would be launching the 'iPhone' as Cingular-only (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060926075521.shtml) initially. However, the possibility still exists that Apple could operate as a "mobile virtual network operator" (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/07/20050708134757.shtml) (MVNO) on Cingular's network.
Early this year it was discovered that Apple was seeking RF engineers with EDGE experience (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/01/20060120030030.shtml) (EDGE is a relatively high-bandwidth mobile network for GSM carriers such as Cingular). Around the same time, Apple acquired a large datacenter in California (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/02/20060227183355.shtml) that was originally designed for MCI WorldCom.
A release date concerning Apple's phone has notoriously been a moving target for rumor sites to pin down. The latest consensus has appeared to pin down early 2007 with an introduction perhaps at MacWorld San Francisco, however some unconfirmed rumblings from MacRumors sources have been indicating that a spring release may also be in the cards.

<Snip> Anyway I really wanted John Hodgman (PC) to take over the role of Mac - because he's switched!:)
Maybe he will and we will have two Mac Guys on one side and a new dorkish PC Guy -- and John will be dressed differently, have a nice haircut and look a little slimmer.
John will be the 'Pro' to show how Macs can be used for business while Justin continues his cool iLife personna...
